READING THE PLACE
A cottage or rural home begins beyond its walls. The contour of the ground, the position of trees and the changing relationship to water or open land shape how a building is placed and experienced. Bloom Architects approaches these settings through carefully arranged volumes, framed views and connections between inside and out.
Our work includes a cottage on Bella Lake in Huntsville, in Muskoka, a prefabricated home on Lake Simcoe and rural and waterfront residences in Prince Edward County. Each landscape brings its own character; the architecture responds without treating these places as interchangeable.
LIVING WITH THE LANDSCAPE
Space for outlook, shelter and retreat.
At Huntsville, distinct wings follow the rocky shoreline, with a glazed link between living and private spaces. The Lake Simcoe cottage explores a different construction approach through four prefabricated modules, while extended rooflines and a palette of wood and stone connect the design to its lakeside setting.
In Prince Edward County, outdoor rooms and garden relationships take different forms: a courtyard between two volumes at the Modern residence, terraces alongside the Contemporary home and layered planting around the Rural Retreat. Gables, overhangs and deep openings give each project a particular balance of openness and enclosure.
