Located on a prominent corner site in Toronto’s South Hill neighbourhood, this boutique residential building is conceived as a contemporary addition to one of the city’s most established residential communities.

The design draws from the masonry architecture of the surrounding neighbourhood, reinterpreting it through a series of deep brick arches, generous windows and softly curved balconies. A restrained white brick palette gives the building a timeless character, while dark metal detailing and a recessed upper level provide a more contemporary counterpoint.

Rather than treating the building as a singular object, the massing is broken down to respond to the scale of the surrounding streetscape. The upper floor is stepped back behind landscaped terraces, while extensive planting at grade helps soften the transition between the building, sidewalk and neighbouring homes.

The result is a distinctly urban building that still feels residential: a modern interpretation of Toronto’s traditional apartment architecture designed to age gracefully within its neighbourhood.
