MISSISSAUGA

LORNE PARK
BUNGALOW
RENOVATION

Located in the prestigious Lorne Park neighborhood of Mississauga, this mid-century modern bungalow from the 1950s is undergoing a thoughtful transformation to restore its architectural integrity while introducing a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. Though the home has strong modernist bones, it was in need of a careful update — one that would honor its original character while enhancing its visual appeal and functionality.

The homeowner’s vision was to retain the essence of the original design, while elevating it with a renewed material palette that includes black metal cladding, natural stone, and warm cedar accents. These new finishes bring a sophisticated contrast and texture, adding depth to the home’s clean lines and understated form.

One of the key design moves involves rebalancing the home's massing. The existing west wing — characterized by its flat roof and low ceilings — felt visually disconnected from the more articulated roof peaks on the east side. To address this, a new roof peak is being introduced at the west end, acting as a visual bookend that restores symmetry to the overall composition. Internally, this new volume will create a dramatic cathedral ceiling for a redesigned master ensuite, bringing light and volume to the space.

To maintain the minimalist architectural language, all existing overhangs and eaves will be removed, creating a seamless intersection between the rooflines and exterior walls — further reinforcing the modernist intent.

Set on a lush 0.6-acre lot, the design is also deeply respectful of the property's natural surroundings. Mature trees and existing vegetation will be preserved, ensuring minimal disruption to the thriving local wildlife and maintaining the home’s unique connection to its wooded landscape.
